This past Thanksgiving Eve we drove, on the freeway, to the home of a friend. We faced hundreds and hundreds of cars going the other direction.
Were they workers returning from the city? Were many of them headed to relative’s homes for a special holiday tomorrow? I didn’t know the answers, but the abundance of on-coming traffic became an illustration – a picture – that made me think. I recalled a verse from the Bible:
"Go in through the narrow gate, because the gate is wide and the road is easy that leads to hell, and there are many who travel it. The gate is narrow and the way is hard that leads to life, and few people find it."
Matthew 7:13,14 (Today’s English Version)
Today’s culture has many millions on the wide road headed for destruction. Some going the wrong way are doing so deliberately, willfully. Countless others are unaware there is a choice! They have never heard the Gospel (which means the good news of Jesus Christ), nor even know about the forgiveness, the hope, the help available to ones who have a personal relationship with the King of kings and Lord of lords – Jesus Christ. Those with faith and trust in God, and headed, by His amazing grace, the right direction, have a wonderful responsibility to point the way and re-direct those now going toward an endless eternity without God.
We who do know Him have the marvelous privilege of being contagious with the gifts God so freely gives.
love, joy, peace, faith, mercy, grace, trust, goodness, kindness, patience, forgiveness, comfort, meekness, self-control, strength for the day, hope, and many more!
Gift-giving season is around the corner. Allow God to "stock up" your supply of His gifts (He wants to) then freely give them away. It’s amazing – when we freely give, our own supply is never diminished.
