In Spite of Obstacles

Fleta R. Robinson

Itís Brown Eyed Susan time; these beautiful daisy-type flowers are deep yellow with dark brown centers. Weíve enjoyed them in various vases and arrangements this summer.

They donít grow singly, but rather in tall clusters along the fence rows, in corners, or masses of them in mid-meadow.

By the Farm House guest facility here at Buffalo Ridge, many are blooming. I noticed that some blossoms were low Ė only 2 or 3 inches above ground. Hmmm . . .

I walked over to check it out. There below the porch was a tall blooming cluster Ė several flowers on each stem, but a couple of hedgewood posts had been stored on top of part of that cluster. Peeking out from under those posts were numerous sunny yellow Brown Eyed Susans. Delightful! In spite of obstacles (and hedgewood is heavy) they were blooming.

Iíve been there. Bet you have too. Disappointments, unexpected circumstances, extra duties, illness, or any other of lifeís negatives, may sometimes be like a heavy hedge post across oneís plans and aspirations. What does one do then?? BLOOM! Godís grace is sufficient.

"In everything give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you." I Thessalonians 5:18

We were in town. A gorgeous glowing sunset was on the western horizon. Oh my Ė LOTS of power poles and lines were in the way, plus buildings. Now if I were back at Buffalo Ridge my camera could capture the beautiful sky. Then I realized those obstructions didnít even slow down the beauty of the sunset.

Despite the obstacles Ė BLOOM!
