A Cup in the Cupboard
by Fleta R. Robinson
We seldom use it — that particular cup. It is not defective, it matches other dishes, it holds steaming coffee, hot tea or cider, as well as the next one, but it’s not one we use every day. It sits in the cupboard behind closed door until needed.
We are not cups, we are people. Everyone’s life has both "front and center" times, and on-the-shelf periods.
Is it hard to simply be as a cup in the cupboard, not knowing when, or if, you will be selected? Allow that shelf time to be a learning time.
"There are men who complain and curse their fate while trying all the time to mould life according to their own desires. They ‘talk big’, but will pay men great respect if it is to their advantage . . . they are led by human emotions and never by the Spirit of God.*
"But you, dear friends of mine, build yourselves up on the foundation of your most holy faith and by praying through the Holy Spirit keep yourselves withing the love of God. Wait patiently. . ."*
When that door opens and the dear Lord selects you/me may He find us clean and available for His will and use. My He fill us to the brim with hope, help, and healing for others, and may the JOY of the Lord be our strength.
"Now to Him who is able to keep you from falling and to present you before His glory without fault, and with unspeakable joy, to the only God, our Saviour, be glory and majesty, power and authority, through Jesus Christ our Lord, before time was, now and in all ages to come, amen."*
Hang in there little cup!
